2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 Review - can it stand-out from the other parallel-twin roadsters?
Remarkably, Husqvarna’s scrambler-styled Svartpilen range is almost 10 years old, having first been revealed as a concept back in 2014. Ever since then, the model has stayed strictly single, from the original 401, to the flagship 701 and the more recent learner-legal 125. Now, for the very first time, a Svartpilen is available with a twin-cylinder engine.
This new 801 replaces the discontinued 701 but broadly follows the same Svartpilen formula: distinctive modern/retro styling, built around the mechanical foundations from a KTM Duke. In this case, it’s the 790 Duke - a bike that’s now, slightly confusingly, actually built by CFMoto. So what do we really have here then? Is this simply a rebadged version of an already-rebadged bike? Or is the Svartpilen 801 really unique enough to deserve a spot among the increasingly crowded world of parallel-twin roadsters?

Good review, but maybe clean all helmets for the next video… 🪰😷
Magnificent! Very exciting motorcycle, but immatriculation tax is way too high (2500 euros) here in Belgium for such a bike that I’m sure I wouldn’t keep very long. Changing bike every year, too much money lost in very short time. Too bad otherwise I would very well be tempted.
What BMW values don’t get affected by new models,???? Definitely not what I’ve experienced over the years, having owned 5 I’ve always seen their value drop significantly
I find it really hard to gauge with BMWs because almost all the bikes leave the showroom with so many options. So, to someone browsing the classifieds a six year-old R1200GS for £9500 looks like its held a lot of value compared to the £13k it cost new for the base model. But the bike I'm looking at has £5k options on it and so actually represents better value for the buyer than the seller... so long as you want all those options. Does that make any sense? Steve
Does it come in a box for home assembly?
10:00 is so much bullshit. You interviewed the BKS ceo and he talked about this exact issue. He wanted a higher rating scale so inferior armor wasn't lumped in with superior armor that was already being produced. The lack of a higher rating scale(which the industry lobbied against as the BKS ceo and Ryan noted) means there is no incentive for manufacturers to produce mass market armor to a higher spec that isn't clearly advertisable. We are given inferior products with the explanation that we will be too stupid to take our own safety seriously by choosing nothing rather than a lower spec because...a higher spec exists? Makes no sense. Enhanced bulkier armor doesn't negate the existence of less capable armor.
Mate 20 or 30 years....how about 50 years using 'other' engines. Apprentice error there.
It's better on road than Triumph tiger 1200 rally explorer?
I was never a suzuki fan, but I did enjoy the gang battling
Yes but then do they have rights to complain and get injury compensation?? Im sure some greedy lawyers would find some loopholes which would be paid out ny tax payers money
Will You get a chance to cover the chigee kit at all??
First hit on Google - www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-technology/chigee-aio5-lite-sat-nav-media-dash-cam
Apologies! I should have looked more carefully Thanks !! That’s a great review
By the way. There are 3 different display settings. One showing everything, one with favorite info displayed and one with only speed, gear and revs.
Yes, indeed - I spent most of the ride in Dynamic mode, which has a rather busy display as default. But other modes do have simpler layouts.
@@Mufga81 You can choose display settings regardless of ride mode. Those settings are not connected to each other.
Typical 17 year old.. I'm 33 and have only just got into riding, passed my CBT and it was the YZF R125 that got me wanting a bike and get into riding but buying a used bike, the price difference between the 125 & the R3 is so close in price, if not cheaper to go bigger, it makes me question whether I should just skip buying a 125 and just go in for my A2 license and buy an R3
What about diamond blades we cut steel mesh at work with them as carbon blades last 2 minutes whereas the diamond blade might be slower but doesn't wear out or shatter?
Here you go ua-cam.com/video/JVqNCv_p7Ug/v-deo.htmlsi=v6SOdTZWPM8LMNXs
looks awesome. Sounds awesome, the price is also awesome. When you add in luggage etc its probably 23-24K.
Fair review. I bought mine 2 days ago and have ridden 30000km so far. I must say I love it! The suspension and the motor is great. The ride position is a little more aggressive than I thought it would be. Don’t agree about the gearbox, mine feels smooth. The only things that bothers me are that the dynamic mode isn’t included, not even the first 1000km = can’t power wheelie. The Bluetooth connectivity isn’t working as it should either, can’t connect the intercom and can’t make calls, so kinda pointless function.
Great review. Thank you. Interesting bike.
Stop talking so we hear the sound of the engine !!!
I'm currently using tru-tension lube but I might have to switch to maxima. Sick of cleaning out behind the sprocket cover.
Okay, I'll get a back protector for my winter jacket. The other pads are NOT coming out, not after the accident I had in the winter, where there was no external damage. I dislocated both shoulders a little and I think I screwed my knee up a little, but I didn't break or bruise at all. As for wearing proper gear, my uncle one showed me his racing suit, which had been in a very high speed accident; a 100+ MPH slide down the track. Huge black smear down the back protection, and he was still walking around and riding. That's what the right gear does.
I'm saving up for a V7. Though the Triumph is a beast, my riding style is more laid back.
I would call it a U.A.M. - urban assault motorbike!
I bet velocity moto arnt selling many RD 500 kits now at 1700 unpainted
Nobody yet has mentioned the cost of the panniers. Will they be available as a package like the V85TT?

Some things are more important than clicks. Cheers, John
Comprehensive well-paced review thank you. Love these Huskies 👍🏼
What's it like compared to the Street Triple?
The Street Triple 765 RS is stiffer, sportier, sharper and more focused, closer to a naked sportsbike. The Svartpilen is softer, more laid-back, and I think more versatile as a result.
Well done mate! One of the best!
I hope he can get his times and it not he's one of very few to have won at the isle of man I think under 30 racers have won the senior , it's a pretty exclusive club and for good reason these are the best natural , skilled riders in the world bar none :-) :-)
I had one astrazenica injection and I've never suffered from any heart problem but now get irregular heartbeat all the time and palpitations I've been waiting for 2 years now to see a heart specialist but my appointments been cancelled 4 times it's the NHS for you not the doctors and nurses but the government
@bennetsbikesocial did you get any time on a highway with this bike? I currently own a Svartpilen 401, and am considering on of these for an upgrade, so I wonder if/how much better this one would be. Obviously there are many upgrades here, plus more power and weight, so I expect that to be a big improvement. My one issue with the 401, however is that with its lack of any fairings, and being as light weight as it is, it feels sketchy to ride on highways when I have to do that. I feel like I’m being battered by the air on my chest and helmet, and then generally blown around by trucks passing me and so on. How did the 801 feel in that regard?
I just traded my 401 Svart for the 801. It’s like trading in a moped for a motorcycle. I loved the 401 but as you say, speed up and it gets sketchy. The 801 is very stable @ 120km/h, felt like I was being blown off on the 401 at high speeds when it was windy. Go for it! The 801 is a fantastic bike! Bigger than the 401 as well.
We didn't do much highway, no, but I think an 801 will feel much more solid, stable and give you a lot more confidence at motorway speeds than a 401.
They should have used the Sunbeam name and kept Rocket 3 for a sports 3.
I used to work in the test lab at Oregon sawchain... our chain oil is for chainsaws that literally go through a quart every 3 or 4 hours, it is the cheapest stuff they can find.
Bring to USA, please. Leave Urine Specimen cups in Britain. The front fender looks odd. Should be chrome and thinner, maybe make the specimen cups chrome too.
I like my modern classics but I think this is an extremely handsome bike with modern touches in the right places. I particularly love the shape of the tank. I realise it’s the one part that has divided people into two camps. I am rather tempted to check it out. Great review thanks.
As someone who commutes all year in the UK... Cheap car gearbox oil or diff oil is the best by far.. costs far far less than "chain lube" and I've managed to at least double the life of my chains
Hmmm...Sounds like a lawn mower & design is unappealing IMO
7ish k is nothing. I just paid that for a specialised turbo kenevo mtb lol. Well almost 7k
Safest helmet on market today = 6D Helmets ! Do your research … no brainer here !
The road lids don't seem to be available in the UK
Nice review of 801Hsqvrna Svtpln
It's build in China?
The motor is made in China, by CFMoto. It's then shipped to Austria where the rest of the bike is built.
Hmmmm it’s a visual exercise but I would put my money down on a Yam XSR 900 coz its better in every way except looks in my opinion…
I hear you - J34 to devils bridge is a demonstration of the big brother syndrome - Ride safe
Hey comment fellas, wanna get this one as my first bike, what is your opinion as skilled bikers?
It would make a brilliant first bike (based on riding the previous model, at least, I haven't ridden the new one yet). There's enough power to enjoy the being on a bike and to learn how to use all the gears and the full rev-range, but not too much that it overwhelms you. They are easy to manage, good in the corners without being too quick-steering and they have enough street-cred to attract some admirers when you park up. Steve R
Great to have Martin back as a journalist. All the stuff you want to know, with considered opinions placing the bike in the wider context and giving a strong sense of how it feels to ride. Thank you!
what model year is this GS? is it the oil-cooled or liquid-cooled one?
Nice review. I wish you guys would use backpack mics to pick up the engine sound though.
It’s overpriced
Get the 701 SM and live a little,🤪
I would choose the ducati. Specially enduro you don't see that often
Chinese/Austrian and £11,000. I'll give that one a miss.
